Essendon (VFL) 1943-1952 - 172 Games, 181 Goals
BILL BRITTINGHAM, after some years in attack, was placed full back last year when Cec. Ruddell, now coach of Camberwell, retired from a position he had graced for some years. Bill was an immediate success, because he has height, pace, dash, and anticipation. Bill had all those attributes as a goal kicker, but his kicking was not always reliable. In goal, real accuracy is not so important, but he covers good distances.
Bill played with a district church team so successfully, that he attracted the attention of senior scouts. After a testing time in the seconds he played his first senior game in 1943 and had played 110 games and kicked 179 goals up to the end of 1949; Until last year he was usually full forward or wing half-forward-and a very lively and elusive attacker, too.
Auburn-haired Bill is well liked in his club. He plays cricket in the Essendon district, and pulled off the double-Essendon won the League premiership, and his cricket club also took the honours. He is an airways clerk, and is married.
