BOB GILES is considered the best first-year player at South Melbourne, but officials are happy in the possession of at least three more who are likely to develop into excellent and regular players. Giles is a home grown product, who graduated from the thirds and seconds. His work in the practice period was so good that his selection was almost automatic, and he has not missed a match.
REG GILES is a district junior who has "made good" in his first season with SOUTH MELBOURNE. His prowess with the Surfers' club was brought to the notice of club officials, and he did so well in the practice games this season that his inclusion in the senior side was almost automatic. He is fast, has a very clever baulk, and is a brilliant mark, flying from the back like Herby Matthews a former clever centre man, used to do. Physical fitness is a fetish with him.
In the summer Reg. revels in swimming, and is one of the foremost members of the surfing club. In-deed, he is so good that he was sent to Brisbane to represent Victoria in the carnival, which was held just before the opening of the football season. He is the type that excels in all sports, but football and swimming are first priorities with him.
Reg. is single, and lives with his people in the district.
