THE quality of DOUG WILLIAMS is indicated by the fact that he completed 100 games for Carlton as a wing man toward the end of last season. He came from Yallourn, his name being suggested to Carlton by a club enthusiast who had seen him in action.

Doug played his first game for the senior side in 1944, and had six games in that season. Since then his tally of games has been 21, 19, 19, 19, and l8 in the years that followed. This indicates just how consistent he has been, and how little he has had to look on because of injuries. This year, however, he had his tonsils re- moved just before the season opened, and missed the early games.

Courage, tenacity, and good disposal are the chief characteristics of his play. He may not get as many kicks as some players, but he rarely wastes one. Half-forwards and for- wards, with many goals to their credit are happy to have Doug on the wing, because they know that, if there is any chance of a pass, Doug will give them opportunities.

He is the type of player most clubs are keen to have about the place, as he is reliable, quiet, and reserved, and an excellent club man. He is a single man, a boilermaker by trade.
