Richmond (VFL) 1948-1957 - 147 Games, 63 Goals
RICHMOND fought for a long time before being able to secure the services of the talented GEOFF SPRING Club officials first heard of him when he was attached to the R.A.A.F., then stationed in Darwin, where he played with Alby Pannam, Ron Todd, and other good players. Geoff's people lived at Balwyn, which was in Richmond territory at that time. However, Ron Todd's influence was sufficient to take him to Williamstown.
After several attempts to secure a clearance for him, Richmond at last secured a promise from 'Williamstown that, if he were allowed to stay there in 1947, they would clear him in the following year. This was done, and Geoff walked into the side, and has played 35 games in two years. His ability was such that he reached the interstate side in his first year, and again last year. In 1948 he won the trophy for best first year player, and last year the chief award-best and fairest in the club.
Although only 5ft. 7in, Geoff is a phenomenal high mark, and has great pace. Indeed, he has won a number of handicaps, but, strangely enough, it is in middle distances that be has had his successes. He was married. some months ago, and is now living in Box Hill. During the summer he continues his footrunnmg career.
