KEN HANDS, who spells from the ruck in the other back pocket, came from Geelong, but was secured only after a hard tussle with most of the other clubs. A clearance was refused by Geelong, and he stayed out of football for a year. Then he received his clearance, had one game with the seconds, and has been a regular ever since. He started in 1945 and is near his 100th game.
Ken, tall and slim, but full of muscle and gristle, is a good kick with either foot, a solid and safe mark, and is as good in ground play as most small men. In addition, he is an excellent team man, and is vice-captain.
Ken, who was married last year, is a salesman. He formerly played cricket in the Carlton seconds, but now plays a little tennis or relaxes in the summer.
