LEAGUE FOOTBALLERS OF 1950 —HALF-BACK FLANKERS

Argus 1-Jul-1950 p12 The Argus Week-end Magazine

TWO splendid players are on the half-back flanks for North Melbourne, who have had great service from them. They are TED JARRARD and LES REEVES.

Les Reeves has developed greatly since he joined the senior team in 1946. Now he is one of the most consistent defenders in the League. He lives in Moreland, and first de- sired to play with Melbourne, of which club his father was an enthusiastic supporter Actually he reached the Melbourne list in 1946 while still in uniform, but it was found that he was tied to North residentially. He quickly settled down, to be followed two years later by brother John.

Les is one of the most improved players in the side, and has played a big part in bringing North to the top. He is a nephew of Colin Niven, who played so well for Melbourne years ago. He is a bank clerk, and recently married. In the summer he plays a little cricket and tennis and goes swimming, but he might have gone further with his cricket, as he was in the Wesley team some years ago. At school he made a century against Melbourne Grammar and won the half-mile and mile championships.
