The Aftermath

Remarkably more accurate kicking would see the record aggregate score of 295 be improved on twice in the coming years with a third game coming within a point of the old record. These were unusual occurances and all invovled Melbourne. These four matches are the only four pre 1970's games in the top 60 highest coring VFL/AFL games of all time.

As an aside to high scoring matches, on the same day that Collingwood and Melbourne kicked the record, another record was being set in Geelong.
