SLV Accession no. H2008.122/176

Team: North Melbourne (VFL)
Location: M.C.G.
Date: 1949

Top row - Les Reeves (1946-53), Jock Spencer (1948-57), John Reeves (1948-55), Reg Ryan (1939-40, 46-50), Vic Lawrence (1948-55), Laurie Shipp (1949-51), Jock Lineen (1947, 1949-54), ?.
Middle row - Eric Parkes (1949-55), Ted Jarrard (1944-53), Les Foote (captain, 1941-51), Wally Carter (coach), Kevin Dynon (1943-54), Keith McKenzie (1944-51), Jock McCorkell (1940-42, 1946-53).
Front row - James Malone, ?, Don Condon (1944-51), ?, ?, Stan Radloff (1946-50).

This is the North Melbourne (VFL) Senior Team snapped in front of Bay 2 of the MCG outer grandstand. Either a 1949 final or a 1950 final. More likely 1949. Cannot be the 1950 Grand Final because four players in this group (Lineen, Parkes, Shipp, Radloff) did not play in it. The players are wearing white shorts. One odd thing is the gushing smile on the face of Les Foote, as if he was only about to play a game of French cricket. An excellent photo - very clear. Pity about the emulsion damage but no faces obscured.

Further Work Needed

This photo appears in the 1948_49 Football Souvenir Magazine Portraits

An analysis of 1949 identifies this as round 5, Gerald Marchesi is missing, and all other identified players appear. Round 5 is also away to Melbourne at the MCG, which is another confirmation.

Round: 5 Venue: M.C.G. Date: Sat, 14-May-1949
Melbourne 5 16 (46)
North Melbourne 6 12 (48)

The missing players should therefore be from:
•Baglin, Lindsay
•Bradford, Jim
•Hedley, Jack
•Jeeves, Frank
•ORourke, Ernie

See BigFooty forum for discussion of Identification of Players

Baglin is in the back row

Jeeves is second from right in middle row
