A tall Ruckman, Wright played his debut game against St Kilda in 1946 as a 17 year old and played his195th and final league game in 1959 aged 30.

During that time kicking Wright kicked 127 goals , won two Brownlow medals (1952 and 1954) and was Richmond Captain 1958-59. He has been elected into the Richmond Team of the Century and into the AFL Hall of Fame.
